The alert, shared to the base’s Facebook page, initially warned of a “potential armed individual” last seen on the South side of the Blanchard Barracks. The notice described the suspect as as a “Black male with a medium build carrying a Gucci Bag.”
The lockdown remained in place until an individual was apprehended, though it’s not known if the person was the one described in the previous alert.
The detainee was transferred to the custody of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the base said more information will be released when available. There were no injures reported on the base during the incident, but some reports indicated that shots were fired a couple of blocks from one of the base’s entrances shortly before the alert was issued.
The live updates for this blog have ended.
“All clear. Resume normal operations,” a loudspeaker’s announcement on base said.
“Authorities have responded to the scene, and the threat of an armed individual on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling has been cleared,” the base wrote on Facebook.
The suspect is to be transferred to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s custody.
First responders are still assessing the situation and more information will be released when available, the base said.
The base is providing news of the ongoing lockdown but has yet to issue a new update after telling those nearby to lookout for a suspect described as “a black male, medium build with dreads that are mid-back in length” wearing blue or green pants and a white tank top.
The base initially locked down after warning of a “potential armed individual.”
“The individual in question is a black male, medium build with dreads that are mid-back in length. He is wearing blue or green pants and a white tank top (possibly with a bag),” the base said.
The base warned that people should not go looking for the man and to call JBAB Security Forces at 202-767-5000 if he is seen.
“One individual is a black male, medium build with dreads wearing ripped blue jeans and with dreads,” the base wrote on Facebook.
“The second individual is a black male wearing green pants and a white top. He may be injured,” the base said.
However, the base warned not to go looking for the two men.
The base said anyone who sees them should call the Base Defense Operations Center at 202-767-5000.
There have been no injuries reported according to a base spokesperson other than the mention of the second man being possibly injured.
The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said police responded to reported gunshots heard nearby when the suspects fled onto the base’s property, the Associated Press reported.
The lockdown announcement can be heard in a video posted to Twitter by a reporter.
