The upcoming Final Fantasy live-action TV series is a collaborative development between Hivemind, the company leading the charge on the aforementioned The Witcher Netflix series, and Sony Pictures Television. While there are currently no details on when, and where, the live-action adaptation of Final Fantasy will air, there is some information on the content of the series that may get fans of the franchise talking.

Specifically, the FF TV series will not follow the likes of Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud or Final Fantasy 13’s Lighting, but it will instead focus on the world of Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix’s popular MMORPG. After a rocky release, Final Fantasy 14 has certainly found its footing, and the upcoming Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers expansion looks to continue the game’s success. With 16 million registered users, there are many fans that will likely be excited to see a live-action rendering of FF14.

Specifics on the plot of the Final Fantasy 14 TV series are scarce at this time, but it is said that it will feature an original story, set in Eorzea, that will touch on “the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.” It is further stated that the FF14 TV show will contain “magitek and beastmen, airships and chocobos” as well as “fan-favorites like Cid.”

With the announcement of this live-action Final Fantasy show, and the reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date earlier this month, fans of the legendary video game franchise certainly have a lot to look forward to. While previous Final Fantasy adaptations have not always been successful, there will definitely be fans curious to see the first live-action take on the beloved series.
