It’s revealed in Little Witch Academia, that these seven spells each hold a powerful meaning that must be fully understood before one can breathe life back into them. To make matters even more complicated only the chosen wielders of the Claiomh Solais (pronounced Clive Soulish) are able to revive the words.

The First Word: Noctu Orfei Aude Fraetor

This word is translated in the show as “strive for your ideal place,” or more fully “despite whatever hardships that you may face, don’t allow yourself to give up on your dreams.” This is the first word revived by Akko, and also the first that Chariot managed to revive. This is one of the few words that Akko was not taught by another individual, instead, she learned it from her past experiences with Chariot, though she was guided in its utterance by Professor Ursula.

When uttered by a user who fully understands its meaning the Shiny Rod (aka the Claiomh Solais) transforms into a large bow with powerful multipurpose arrows. The abilities of these arrows range from powerful attacks to opening ley lines and restoring Yggdrasil.

The Second Word: Phaidoari Afairynghor

The second word translates to “you do not get the things you dream of, you get the things you work for.” As simple as this lesson seems, it is still difficult for Akko to learn. Viewers know that Chariot also discovered this word, but it is never revealed how. Akko herself is only able to revive it when she faces the Moon Spirit who asks her to give up on her past in order to reach her dreams.

The use of this word transforms the Shiny Rod into an axe that Akko then uses to hack her way out of the trap she found herself in. Once Akko is rendered unconscious we learn that the entire experience was a test designed to draw the word of power out of her and that by rejecting the spirit’s offer she had passed.

The Third Word: Arae Aryrha

This word means “do not compare yourself to others, do only what you can do.” The meaning of this was largely lost on Akko, and throughout the remainder of the series it is unclear if she actually learned it or simply forgot her desire to be like others in the heat of the moment when she revived the word. She is able to do so when she breaks a curse of sorrow placed upon princess Vajarois.

This word unlocks a grappling hook form for the Shiny Rod for Akko. However, when used by Chariot it was not only able to do that but also augment metamorphosis magic beyond what a normal spell would be capable of. Akko herself struggled greatly with this type of magic and perhaps that is why she was never able to access the spell’s aid.

The Fourth Word: Mayenab Dysheebudo

This spell translates to “to see it through, patience is enough.” For Akko, this is perhaps the most difficult lesson, and many would suggest that she doesn’t truly learn it. Even her peers tease her after reviving the word for reverting immediately back to impatience. Furthermore, the situation in which she learns the spells is an extremely time-sensitive one in which she is not only impatient but also only barely saves her friends in time.

When she revives the fourth word the staff transforms into a sprinkler that allows an antidote that she had been making for Greenman’s disease to be spread across all of those infected. Either this spell was very confusing for Chariot to unlock, or the staff might simply become whatever is most convenient regardless of the spell.

The Fifth Word: Sybilladura Lelladybura

Translating to “when traditional and modern powers mingle the gate to the unseen world will open.” The show still implies that Akko must learn a lesson to be able to revive this spell, but no lesson is made perfectly clear. It is implied that she must work together with Diana, a traditionalist in contrast to Akko’s creativeness. That being said the audience never knows how exactly Chariot was able to revive the word since she did not have access to a member of the Cavendish family like Akko did, seeing as the word was their motto.

When the two girls revive the word the Shiny Rod transforms into a broom which is incredibly fast, though not as fast as the Shooting Star which was already introduced and lost earlier in the series.

The Sixth Word: Lyonne

The only word that is actually one word, this one translates to “thank you.” This was the final word that Chariot was able to revive. Both she and Akko were able to do so in the same way. By climbing the tree of Wagandea and falling from its branches, both girls were able to face those who had helped them most and thank them properly. Akko thanks Professor Ursula for all of the aid that she had previously offered. Chariot had thanked her friend Croix for her support after being passed over in favor of Chariot by the Shiny Rod. When this word is activated powerful healing magic is released that heals all physical ailments but seems to do nothing against the magical curse inflicted by the tree’s pollen.

The Seventh Word: Phasansheer Shearylla

This word was only ever revived by Akko and means “connect with other people and your dreams will grow.” She is able to do so due to the powerful friendships that she had formed throughout the course of the show. Chariot was unable to do so due to her only friend not being a true friend at the time. By reviving it Akko was able to access the Grand Triskelion with which she alters the world forever.
