Linkin Park have teamed up with mobile game developer Artificial Life to create Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion for the iPod Touch or Phone, and, surprisingly, it looks pretty good!
The title isn’t what you’d expect (a rhythm-style music game), but an action adventure involving flamethrowers, lasers and whatnot.
In an 8-bit land, the evil corporation called PixxelKorp has taken Linkin Park’s music, and it’s up to you to get it back. With 8-bit and original versions of the songs, expect to blast your way with solid tunes playing. When you beat the game, you even get a previously unreleased track entitled “Blackbird” - which is a wicked prize for any hardcore Linkin Park fans.
There’s also a lot of customization available including: what your character as well as your crib looks like.
As for the actual gameplay, well, take a look for yourself:

Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda was very optimistic through the development process, and evidently is proud of the result:
“The collaborative process with Artificial Life was exceptional! They were able to turn my sketches and our creative ideas into a living, breathing world that we think gamers will thoroughly enjoy. This game is not just made for Linkin Park fans-anyone will be able to play and enjoy 8-Bit Rebellion.’ My bandmates and I grew up playing games like ‘Metroid,’ ‘Donkey Kong,’ ‘Zelda,’ ‘Space Invaders,’ ‘Mega Man’ and ‘Rygar.’ We wanted this game to have the feel of a vintage game, and a big part of it was the music.”
A release date hasn’t been announced yet, with both band and developer saying it’s “Coming Soon”, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
